They actually did it. And Joe Biden showed up so the white guy wouldn't feel outnumbered.
For those of you keeping score at home:
The president was drinking Bud Light, Biden was drinking Buckler (a nonalcoholic beer), Gates was drinking Samuel Adams Light and Crowley was drinking Blue Moon.
FU, Gates! Where's the Red Stripe!?! Man, there's a guy who doesn't know how to pick his battles.

See Gates is STILL being repressed! Can't even drink his beer of choice without bein' pressured by The Man!
And what's the deal? The POTUS and the VPOTUS can't drink at the same time for national security reasons? Or is Biden on the wagon?
And what a great footnote to the story!
Separately, a Boston, Massachusetts, police officer became part of the controversy by referring to Gates in a mass e-mail as a "banana-eating jungle monkey."
Officer Justin Barrett later apologized, saying he's not a racist. He told a local television station on Wednesday night that he was sorry for the e-mail.
"I regret that I used such words," Barrett told CNN affiliate WCVB. "I have so many friends of every type of culture and race you can name. I am not a racist."
Sure you're not. "Banana-eating jungle monkey" has a myriad of different contexts. Of course the liberal media would pounce on the most obvious one.
And what's the deal? The POTUS and the VPOTUS can't drink at the same time for national security reasons? Or is Biden on the wagon?
Biden gets unbearably charming when he drinks. He had to stay subdued.
Can't help but notice Obama and Biden are wearing WHITE shirts, sitting in WHITE chairs at a WHITE table!! And Gates can't get no Jamaican beer!
This would've been the moment for Gates to flail his cane around and scream "YOU MESSIN' WITH THE WRONG GUY!"
"Banana-eating jungle monkey"
I don't know. It doesn't stike me as terribly offensive or racist. I just don't see it. I think people have their racial sensitivity meters turned up a bit to high.
It's actually quite complimentary when you consider the implication that Gates makes his potassium intake a priority, as we all should.
True that.
I like monkeys. And beer.
And nanners, though not as much as beer.
I like monkeys.
I recall Howard Cosell also had a certain fondness for monkeys. Especially ones who could catch a football real well. They are cute like suckers.
Howard Cosell. Now, he was funny!
And they sure can run.
And some of his best friends were monkeys. Not sure if they were the banana eating jungle kind or not but really, what other kind are there?
These guys eat spiders and leaves. Though some spider monkeys do eat fruit.
I like the kind with the big red asses.
Don't we all?
Personally, I like a Howler Monkey. But that's just me.
I guess the Macaca's impressive, if only because it killed a Republican using only its name!
Of course, my all time favorite is the bathroom monkey!
My white privilege half loves a barrel of monkeys.
MV, you're right I read last night that Coors and Miller were bought by a United Kingdom company. And that Sam Adams is now the largest domestic brewery in the U.S.
That Gates... knows his politcally correct beers.
Yeah, but they're still produced in the US. Or did the Brits fly a bunch of chaps in to take over the Coors bottling facilities?
Should read... And that Sam Adams is now the largest domesticly owned brewery in the U.S. They're based in Mass.
Gotta admire that globalization... we even give up on our beer companies.
Was it just time for the American owners to cash out?
There are no American owners, just global companies!
I recently saw some patriotic-type commercial with pics of amber waves of grain and purple mountain majesty with lovely wind farms and a "we love america" narration, and at the end, the BP logo popped up. Like that fookin' stooopid Palm Pre albino chick - I laughed.
Or did the Brits fly a bunch of chaps in to take over the Coors bottling facilities?
Couple of snooty chaps in bowler hats. "I say, you're serving your beer too cold, dear boy!"
Selling out for the cha-ching. Awful. That's why I go for the imports. Plus, they taste better.
Canada makes a good beer.
Don't drink much beer these days.
But I will knock back a few Red Stripes when I'm in Jamaica in 3 weeks.
[ducks and runs]
Yay beer! You gotta say that every time you order, snark. Again, my offer to stow away and be the nanny stands from last year's trip!
BTW, I just remembered, it's my birfday. 49. I'm old. There will be beer aplenty this evening.
Couple of snooty chaps in bowler hats. "I say, you're serving your beer too cold, dear boy!"
Yes, some very cheeky fellows I will say!
Yeah, why be a hypocrite about it... give me a Heineken.
But I do know many people here who love to down a 30 pack of Natural Light cause it cost only about 12 bucks. Quanity, not quality is their motto.
Wow... Happy Birthday to you... Twinky.
Happy B-Day Twinky!
You're only as old as other people make you feel. So fuck 'em.
So fuck 'em.
Only if they're cute. Or in lieu of cute, I'll take jewels.
Gosh, I wonder when Obama's gonna put me in line for the extermination showers. I now understand why people lie about their age. Doesn't help, since only Obama's able to successfully hide his birth certificate in plain sight!
Quanity, not quality is their motto.
As opposed to my motto "gimme large quantities of good beer, who cares what it costs!"
Gosh, I wonder when Obama's gonna put me in line for the extermination showers.
Read a funny story the other day about the elderly and healthcare... it was Obama's "Soylent Green" policy!
Trying my best not to think of snark's Jamaica vacation... not working.... damn, I wish had the cash to go. Well, first the passport.
Couldn't sleep last night... nightmares... hallucinations... fun shit.
Watched a late night movie, can't remember the name, made in 1987, with Donald Sutherland, Susan Sarandon, Marlon Brando about apartheid in South Africa and the random killing of people in Soweto in the 70's.
I'm convinced that the repukes are just like the white South Afrikkkaners... can't stand the thought they will not be in control and their way of life is going to change forever.
The narrative in the media should be... the sooner conservatives accept the reality that life is going to change radically and will not be to their liking, the quicker we can all move on.
So sorry to hear about the damn nightmares, SoS. Fucking brains. I recognize the movie, but can't remember the name. MV will know, he knows everything!
Also, I don't believe anything will change too much. Elites will be elite, and everyone else will be dirt. It's the way of the world.
But I will knock back a few Red Stripes when I'm in Jamaica in 3 weeks.
MUTHAAAAAAAAAAFUCKAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!
Which part?? Sweet Georgia Brown am I jealous.
Happy Birthday Twinky!!
A Dry White Season, 1989.
I don't believe anything will change too much.
Yeah, probably. That's why I feel we have to hold the media accountable. They have to squash the lies, the rumours, false-truths, and all the innuendo that idiots believe.
Money does make the world go 'round. And everyone expects to be included... that's the big joke on these idiots. New money is never invited into the club.
the sooner conservatives accept the reality that life is going to change radically and will not be to their liking, the quicker we can all move on.
That would be a much more pleasant attitude. But look at the lengths they'll go to keep that from happening. The fear mongering.
There are actually people out there right now that believe Obama wants to euthanize the elderly.
Given, these people are immensely stupid and too lazy to check more than one source (Rush) for their news. Call me crazy, but the best cure for fear is information.
the lies, the rumours, false-truths, and all the innuendo that idiots believe.
Basically, these people get their news from mass emails about banana-eating jungle monkeys and Obama's Socialist death camps.
And Rush.
MUTHAAAAAAAAAAFUCKAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!
Loved that response!
MUTHAAAAAAAAAAFUCKAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!
Which part?? Sweet Georgia Brown am I jealous.
Ocho Rios. We're takin' another cruise actually. Haiti, Jamaica, Cayman Islands, Cozamel. After all the craziness this summer we decided we need to get away. Kids don't know. It's gonna be a surprise. Which will be great because they keep asking why we haven't gone anywhere on vacation yet this summer.
Nice. Our friends got married there.
Cozamel! Dang. I've never been on a cruise. We've been to the Sandals resorts in the Bahamas and Whitehouse, Jamaica. I like to float around the pool and drink and smoke a spliff and have dinner. Don't like a big itinerary. But your way, you don't have to deal with the crappy airports and the hellacious bus ride to the resort. You prolly just dock at the nice part and wander on in.
Sweeeeet.
Yeah, we love it. Once you're on the boat all you gotta worry about is having fun. Get on. Have a nice dinner. Maybe an evening swim or jacuzzi. Put the kids to bed. Hit the casino. Go to bed. Wake up in the morning and you're moored off some beautiful beach. Spend the day beachside. Rinse. Repeat.
We sail Royal Caribbean. They have really great ships and really really great crews. Nice people from all over the world who are as pleasant as can be because they're making a butt load better money then they would be where ever they are from. Our table waiter last time was from India. They sign on for 4 month tours. It was his last cruise before going home to India to meet his newborn son for the first time. He said it was hard not being there with his family and they work really really hard but the opportunity to make such good money was too much to pass up. He was great. He did little magic tricks or little puzzles at the table each night. We gave him a really great tip. The whole crew is nice. And the ships are really nice. Some of the lines ships are really tacky but RC ships are done pretty tastefully. This time we're on Liberty Of the Seas. Currently one of the three largest cruise ships in the world.
My man/woman at the pool bar and I will be real tight by the end. I assure you. You tip the bartenders and they take care of you.
Oh, the girls will be soooo happy! How cool, snark, and you need a break, too, I think. Good for you.
See, I told you MV would know the movie! And yes, there's a large quantity of brewskis waiting for me to get off work. Of course, I asked my supervisor if I could leave early - didn't say b-day, but last week one of the other workers asked to leave early, and of course, left. Me? Oh, since I need my supervisor to finish her shit before I can finish mine, and she's so far behind because she keeps taking time off, she wasn't too sure I should go, otherwise she'd have to get shit done earlier than 5 minits before the end of the day and we can't have that, can we?
Well it's quitin' time.
Enjoy the birthday brewskies Twinky!
Thanks! You, too!
Have a good weekend and great birthday Twinky!
I certainly shall! It's vastly cooler here today, so it won't be nearly as hellish.
Great Bill Maher quote last night about the Beer Summit (that I wish I would've thought of) --
"Imagine what they could have accomplished if they had passed a joint!"
[Gates] said he plans on meeting with Crowley again. "I offered for the two of us to have lunch together, one-on-one, or go to a Red Sox game, or a Celtics games, or maybe the families can get together for dinner. Why not?"
That's it, folks! Racism is officially OVER!! WOO-HOO!!
I expect Crowley will be showing up at teabagger parties and replacing NotJoe the NotPlumber very soon!
Boy, am I glad I turned off the computer this weekend. Apparently, the crazies are examining these pics of the Beer Summit and seeing Obama with a chubby after he touches the cop. Them guys're sick fucks, aren't they?
Twinky,
Why do you have such a hate on for Crowley? Damn, comparing him to Joe the Plumber? People have bad days. WTF?
Cops don't get to have bad days. Period. They carry guns and tazers, and love to intimidate people. A lot of the times, people die when a cop has a bad day. And then, he gets away with it.
But my boss, from Boston, explained it - doesn't matter what the cop did, the crime was that a black man rose up from obscurity and became a white man with one simple phrase: "Do you know who I am?" After that, no rights for him, because he's dissing the "working class." I'm surprised Gates didn't have an "accident" in jail. He's both a race traitor and a class traitor. Fookin' Gates never had a chance.
Crowley represents all that is wrong with this country; the guy arrests someone out of spite, and everyone thinks he's in the right. Yes, yes, you shouldn't badmouth a cop, because he's got power over you. Doesn't mean I have to like the Third World country we live in, does it?
Crowley represents all that is wrong with this country...
Wow. All that from one arrest.
Or it could be, I'm a loud mouth bitch, which means I'm in danger around cops at all times. Did you hear about the kid that got arrested and thrown around in DC for singing "I hate cops!" Dumb, but not illegal.
Not the arrest, the reaction from the country, that the cop was right. But yes, I'm the minority, I realized that last week. If we're willing to give up on our rights, there's no reason for those in position of authority to abide by the rules. Why else do you think Obama's gonna keep the permanent detention policy? Because he can. Also, state secrets, and talking transparency but hiding shit. This lovely experiment in democracy is on its last legs - hopefully I'll be dead before it's a full blown dictatorship. One more republican prez oughta do it, I think.
Did you hear about the kid that got arrested and thrown around in DC for singing "I hate cops!" Dumb, but not illegal.
Ok, you convinced me. All cops are worthless scum who do nothing but look to harass people and make their lives more difficult.
Have a good day.
Yep. Pretty much.
Seriously, though, it is disconcerting how everyone took the cop's side, just because Gates had a bad day.
Snark, you know she's talking about more than just this event. It's eight years of Bush. "The Totalitarian Tiptoe."
Domestic spying, detainees, the loss of due process, torture, coply intimidation in violation of civil liberties, the increasing number of tazing incidents all over the media and You Tube, all the way up to the DUI checkpoints on the 4th of July and culminating in this ludicrous Beer Summit.
Obviously, not all cops are like this. We forget their good qualities until we actually need the cops.
But it's pretty clear the trend is we the people are steadily losing ground to law enforcement.
Anybody who decides to get up in the face of a cop and spit "I KNOW MY RIGHTS" better be aware of the recent revisions before they open their mouth.
Thanks, MV, you said it better. During the last week I saw so many personal stories of cops following people home, pulling them over for laughing while driving, that 14 year old girl's 8 inch scar across her head from a fookin' cop's tazer, the BART murderer, there was one guy at kos who had filed a complaint and that cop and his pals followed them and surveilled them openly for years. Yeah, that's not all cops, but there's a distinct trend towards shoot first, ask questions later that I don't like. But I'm prolly just being paranoid. I'll hold judgement until my next run in with the bast...I mean, America's Finest.
But I'm prolly just being paranoid.
Don't mean they're not after you.
You guys know how far I got into Libertarianism and conspiracy theories about a New World Order and a microchipped society and all that crap.
I've backed off that a long way. I don't read the newsletters anymore and I don't go teabagging.
But something's up. We're not headed in the right direction. We give it away inch by inch. Case by case. It feels, at least to me, like tyranny is creeping in. Not so much that you'd notice, because if it came on all at once, we'd flip out.
It's the little things that you get used to. We can look at a case like Gates and make it all about race or all about "he was a jackass putting on a show for the gathering crowd", but we're missing the point. He was arrested for yelling at a cop. And we know what Crowley did was wrong because the charges were dropped and the city apologized.
That's good that they did. Maybe next time they won't. Maybe next time he won't be a friend of the president and a distinguished professor.
It's a public service job, being a cop. You don't see firemen or social workers tazing the people they're paid to serve.
You can yell at social workers. You can yell at firemen. You might get your ass handed to you, but it won't be by the courts.
I was watching Watchmen again, and in the opening sequence, they had a hippie girl putting a flower in one of the barrels of the guns aimed at the protesters, just like the silly, but iconic image from the '60s, and just before the image moved on, you could see the cop opening fire. Sometimes I feel like that's where we're at these days.
Sure, cops have a hard job, but they know that going in. If you have a hair trigger, or a propensity for "bad days," find another line of work, I say.
Anyhow, to his credit, Crowley isn't going to accept the mantle of new teabagger boy toy, plus, he's a union guy, so it's kinda funny watching the morons try to reconcile their love for authority figures who skirt the law with their hatred of unions and working stiffs. I guess that's where the shift to Obama's hankerin' fer the white wimmin' is coming from.
Sorry, just don't think you can distill the guys entire life and psychological profile down to one incident. And Crowley didn't assault anyone. He didn't taze anyone. He didn't shoot anyone. He made an arrest. A bad arrest as it turns out. And out of all that Twinky wants to vision him as the new wingnut poster boy ala Joe the fucking plumber.
Sorry, but doing that makes you no better than what you want so desperately to believe Crowley is. Think about that relative to your new authoritarian world order.
Wow. You're awfully bitchy for somebody going to Jamaica in 3 weeks.
You know she's venting and you're being argumentative.
Red Stripes, dude. Boat drinks. Eyes on the prize.
Wow. You're awfully bitchy for somebody going to Jamaica in 3 weeks.
2 1/2.
You know she's venting and you're being argumentative.
Oh, right. She's not a cop. She gets to have a bad day once in her life.
I maintain, the venting really plays well into the new authoritarian way we relate to each other. The understanding is that I'll respect the venting and not express my opinion. See how easily we all adapt.
But I'll "back off" now and "de-escalate" the situation.
And out of all that Twinky wants to vision him as the new wingnut poster boy ala Joe the fucking plumber.
Actually, I read a lot of blogs that follow right wing nutjob blogs, and they were trying to make Crowley their new poster boy, until he snubbed them somehow. I was just riffing on that fact.
I understand you wanting to take each case individually so as not to demonize one person, but that's how trends get overlooked, in my opinion. But I'll stop. Why should I care if the cops are outta control, I've done nothing wrong and have nothing to hide, right? I'm safe from them. Right?
[/topic]
The understanding is that I'll respect the venting and not express my opinion. See how easily we all adapt.
Pssh. You know what I'm saying. You're just being all Devil's Advocatey.
She gets to have a bad day once in her life.
Well, I'm not carrying deadly weapons, am I?
And was there an escalation? I thought we were discussing - didn't mean to piss you off, snark. I can't possibly be the first person to say "fuck, fuck, fuck the po-lice" in your vicinity, can I? I'm a fookin' liberal, it's my job to hate the coppers. Your lefty credentials may be under review, however, with your cop loving ways.
And Crowley didn't assault anyone. He didn't taze anyone. He didn't shoot anyone. He made an arrest. A bad arrest as it turns out.
I agree with most of what you said snark but I agree with Twinky (and MV) as well.
Crowley blatantly lied in his report. Not just once, but in several instances. He didn't think the report would get outta hand. That was his big mistake.
Other than that, I'm sure he's a good cop. For a white guy. ;)
Talk about racial profiling... the shit here in AZ is fucking out of hand. Sheriff Joe is still doing his anti-immigration thing, even though the Dept. of Homeland Security has ordered him to cease and desist.
Addtionally he's celebrating 16 years (I think) of his tent cities. He's gonna serve Hot Dogs and Ice Cream in celebration today.
Had a similar argument with my conservative sister this weekend... she says, Obama played the race card... I tried to argue that he was responding to the racial profiling.
"Can't we all just get along!"
How about the new, official Kenyan birth certificate Orally Taintz came out with!
This is becoming hysterical... she has Obama's real birth certificate that even Obama can't produce!
Riff on police abuse all you want. What you did was take Crowley and peg him as a new Joe the Plumber. Explicitly. You did to him exactly what you believe he did to Gates. And it's bullshit. The guy was responsible for a bad arrest. The situation is now resolved seemingly to both parties satisfaction. Hey, lets here it for the system. But you still feel the need to pile on the guy.
Sorry, that bugged the liberal in me.
So sorry.
I just wanna add:
Fuck fuck fuck the po-lice!
Twinky,
Do you honestly believe that if the media went through his police record and found even one single similiar incident that they could use to show "a pattern of behavior" that that would not have been all over their coverage? They don't care which side they take as long as it's the most sensational side.
You don't need to apologize. If it's how you feel it's how you feel.
Going to "Netroots Nation" this year snark? I kinda figure not, since your vacation is so close.
Gotta say, if Crowley had some more bad shit in his file it would've come out. Guy goes in one day to do his job and comes out the most famous white cop in America. I didn't know for a week that Gates walked with a cane... come on it's all just funny shit now.
I was trying to explain this weekend... where are the cops when you need one; they show up when you've just come home from a long exhausting trip to China, can't get into the front door of your own home, prove it's your residence, you're all frustrated, blow your top, get arrested... ain't that some shit kind of day.
Hey Twinky did you have a good birthday?
MV, after Tavarius Jackson went down with Minnesota... I think Vick lands there.
Just when it was save to talk about white cops again...
*backs away from the computer slowly*
MV, after Tavarius Jackson went down with Minnesota... I think Vick lands there.
Hey, why the fuck not? Let him make the millions he's entitled to. While we're at it, let's let OJ out of jail!
Hey Twinky did you have a good birthday?
It was great, actually. Still hot, but a friend came over on a whim and we had a good time in the pool and cooking and trying on clothes and stuff. Very sedate. No cops.
No cops.
They wouldn't fit in the pool? ;)
Too busy beating the shit out of my philipina neighbor. We made popcorn.
That's a chilling article, Sos.
And now that cops have grenade launchers and M-16s, no, they're definitely not allowed to have a bad day.
Twinky is. She didn't take an oath of public service. And she doesn't have the munitions to invade Venezuela.
Too busy beating the shit out of my philipina neighbor.
As long she didn't get tazed in the ass!
Tristan started 8th grade today!
That's a chilling article, Sos.
No shit MV...
Man, did I actually write "save"? What a fucking imbecile... fingers not working too well lately!
Aw, poor li'l guy! My son said 8th grade was the worst. Boys are starting to thrash out their identities, and get all overly macho. My son hated it. Hopefully Tristan has a better time! Congrats to the young man, though.
Damn, I posted it at Left is Right as well... fixed.
Fucking muckdog has been coming over and giving us his conservative praise... pretty bad when your readership is down to muckdog.
Boys are starting to thrash out their identities, and get all overly macho. My son hated it.
I keep reaffirming to him, "It's a real akward age and grade." He's got braces, growing a little (taller than Mom, but that's not saying much), he's trying to rush puberty. I'm telling him, "It will come naturally don't rush it." It'll be all the rules this week... so I'm going to have to remind myself not harp on him so much about "toeing the line".
Hey boys and girls... who says that tax cuts stimulate the economy? Criminal republi-cons... that's who! Now we don't have money to pay for a damn thing. Tax Revenues Post Biggest Drop Since Depression. Or how about we get back to taxing the rich... they have gotten away from paying taxes long enough.
Really, snark, I didn't know you were getting pissed until MV said you were being bitchy. I just assumed you were being "Devil's Advocatey" like always. And it was a joke about J the P; I had just come from alicublog and Sadly, No who were laughing at the wingnut silliness over the beer thingy. I wouldn't have pushed if I'd realized sooner that's what set you off.
SoS, all my friends' sons say that 8th grade was the hardest - it corosponds to the age in child development where boys are trying to assert their identities, I think. Of course, we were all single mothers at the time, which made it hard for the boys without a male role model. He'll do fine, since you're there to listen and mentor him thru it. Still, I was proud of my son, since he'd come home and gripe about how all the other boys would talk about the girls like they were nothing more than tits and ass. Warmed my heart, but it made him a target, showing respect for girls when everyone else wanted to objectify them to show how "manly" they were.
I wasn't pissed. It just bugged me that you seemed to not only not give the guy ANY benefit of the doubt in this instance but to malign his entire existance just because he's a cop. I don't know the guy any better than you do but I'm not prepared to condemn him over this.
Really, snark. Maligning his entire existence? For comparing him to J the P?
Well, yeah, I guess that is pretty extreme.
Anyhow, what's really bugging you? We trash on people we don't know all the time. I made a joke. The first after a long weekend and an early wake up. It may not have been very funny, but I didn't think it was existence maligning.
You okay?
I'm fine. Forget it. I just think the guy was trying to do his job and the circumstances played out in a bad way.
Glad you're okay. And you're right, I'll stop talking about them, because they both are happy to fade into the next news cycle, and that's for the best.
But I won't stop talking about police outta control. Fookin' grenade launchers? WTF?
