That's an unbelievably great montage. Wow.

Wow is right MV!

He certainly seemed like he discovered a large talent pool.

RIP Mr. Hughes

Doesn't that kick ass?? A great song, of course, and so lovingly edited together. There's not a clip in there that didn't give me an instant feeling of recognition and appreciation.

I've watched for Hughes in the past twenty years. He wrote a lot of mediocre movies (the Charles Grodin Beethoven series, the Home Alone series), just paycheck jobs where he used "Edmond Dantes" for the writing credit. The Count of Monte Cristo.

But I always hoped he would direct again. There was talk of a 20-years-later Breakfast Club sequel, but that was probably never much more than a rumor.

With Planes, Trains, and Automobiles he clearly showed he was beyond the "Brat Pack teen angst" thing and was on his way for a Cameron Crowe type of career, but he walked away from Hollywood and I never got to see the comeback I was hoping for.

Who's to say? As long as he was happy.

Wow. Great montage.

Ferris Bueller is one of the best movies of the eighties. It's funny I just saw a thing today about Jeniffer Grey. Apparently, she got a nose job a few years back to try and revive her flagging carrier. But it backfired. She'd go for auditions and no one would recognize her. Losing her distinctive nose killed her career even worse.

Sorry for Hughes' family. There's a legacy there they can be proud of though.

You gotta see this video

I almost think it had to be faked but it looks pretty real to me.

Jennifer Grey was in a sitcom a few years back where she played herself going thru the angst of having had the nose job and no one recognizes her. Can't remember the name of it, but it was pretty funny in an inside Hollywood sort of way.

Breakfast Club's my fave of the bunch. I totally identified with Ally Sheedy's character, though Judd Nelson's was a close second. Bueller was a lark, and I loved Mia Sara, but I didn't really feel the cultiness I felt with BC.

Oddly enough, I thought Hughs had died years ago.

Ah, Jennifer Grey's unfortunate nose job. I saw her name in the opening credits of David Mamet's Redbelt and it wasn't until the second time I watched it that I even noticed her.

That was a mistake.

That looks pretty real to me. There's no cut, no pause in the camera motion, nothing to suggest CGI...

Hard to believe, but I think it's real. Either way, I'm impressed!

snark said...

The guy's a lunatic. But yeah, it was impressive.

Ya know how you have images of people in your head from all these movies made decades ago and that's how you think they still are.

Kelly LeBrock

Not that I condone fascism, or any -ism for that matter. -Ism's in my opinion are not good. A person should not believe in an -ism, he should believe in himself. I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me." Good point there. After all, he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. I'd still have to bum rides off people.

gone said...

Damn, Kelly Lebrock! No wonder she went all wacky on Steven Seagal! Oy!

And that waterslide, wow. That's the pool I got! Hmm. Gotta get to work on that ramp...

I loved "Weird Science"... Bill Paxton as the bully brother.

My lord, Kelly... put down the cheeseburgers! Looks like she's wearing a hospital bracelet.

Wasn't Jennifer Grey in "Red Dawn"?

Seven of Six said...

I don't know about that slide... 2 little buckets of water to get him going... maybe it was already raining out.

gone said...

Yep, and Ally Sheedy, wasn't it, SoS?

"Wolverines!!"... Yup!

The Masked Vigilante said...

Yep, but her sister in the movie was Lea Thompson, not Ally Sheedy.

I was just reading this morning, Molly Ringwold was offered the Lea Thompson role in Some Kind of Wonderful, but Molly refused. Hughes got really pissed at her for it and they never worked together again.

You know they're remaking Red Dawn, right? It's official. Any movie made before 1990 should now be called a "premake".

gone said...

ARgle bargle!

It felt wrong typing Ally Sheedy, thanks for the Lea Thompson. I rather like her too. Yeah, we've been laughing about the Red Dawn remakes for a while. Wolverines!!

I like "premake." What I'd like to see is Guillermo del Toro remake Warriors. The kid who played Kirk could be the main guy. Wanda Sykes could be the radio lady. Who plays the chick?

snark said...

Good, we're about due for another "Red scare".

Is it gonna be the Chinese this time? Or is the Russian bear gonna "rear his head"?

Seven of Six said...

Hell, it's going to be red, white and true blue Americans with the help of a neo-con christian military... I think a civil war would make a much better movie!

gone said...

Really, SoS? I think you're onto something there. The batshitters will go apoplectic over civil war. Jizz in their pants, prolly.

Dang. I'm sitting in my office at home, and the neighbor's got some dachsunds, and one just came running out barking at the phillipina lady next door who's watering her front garden, and hacking like she's gonna bring up a lung. (so much for the quiet morning coffee with the birdies singing, eh? That's on the other side of the house...)

Anyhow. Trigger warning, MV! The owner of the dog comes out and I hear a little yip, and figure "well them dogs yip when you look at 'em." It yipped again, and I looked around and the young man, huge and burly, was carrying the dog by its scruff. Kinda roughly, too, the pup yipped again. Such casual cruelty. Makes want a more secluded retirement abode.

I'd like to fly up there and carry that asshole around by HIS scruff.

And by "scruff" I mean balls.

Looks like it's gonna be China. Which makes no sense since we owe them 5 kazillion dollars and if they invaded they'd never see a dime of it.

The guy that played Kirk's father at the beginning of Star Trek has the Swayze role. Same guy that's gonna play Thor.

These are the guys that have parties every week to watch that ultimate fighting crap. Ugh.

I remember liking Red Dawn at the time. It's kinda like enjoying those disaster movies where the whole Eastern seaboard gets wiped out by a tidal wave. You know, fantasy.

Zombieland redband trailer.

Oh hell yeah.

Didn't I tell ya? Huh? Didn't I? And snark, there's zombie boobies!

Took me a few tries to get the media player to work -- WTF is with some of these formats?? -- but yeah, you totally called it. That looks like a blast.

And I don't recognize the writers or the director, so we've got ourselves a new discovery here.

Not a huge fan of Woody Harrelson, but I'm sure he's baked all the time so that gives him points in my book.

gone said...

I've liked Harrelson since Natural Born Killers, which I thought was a great send up of our thug-luvving society, sensationalist media, and need for a happy ending. I never hear Sweet Jane without seeing Juliet Lewis on the car. Speaking of her, she'll be with the Pretenders here in a couple weeks. I need to get tickets.

Sarah Palin your INBREED RETARDED child is not FUCKING SPECIAL.Go back to pumping out YOUR DEMON SEED.Get a FUCKING SOUL YOU CUNT.

I saw this comment by goatboy (without the bleating) at digby's place, in response to Palin's remark that Obama wants to euthanize her youngest. ObamaCare(tm) will force panels of evil people who decide who lives and dies, apparently. Way cool, I say - let's have, like, a Star Chamber health care system, give it some competition, some pizazz!

Maybe something like this!

Not on vacation yet. Just swamped at work.

I managed to get caught up yesterday, getting ready for the onslaught. Ugh. Things have gotten so silly online, man. People are nuts anymore!

I called in sick yesterday. Fookin' Illinois weather got my head all screwed up and my ears blaring because of an oncoming storm and never came on.

So I spent the day napping and writing. We need a new topic. What's going on in the world?
