WARNING. This may be the first of a series of posts where I trash Israel until somebody can rationally explain to me why we’re so enamored with this fuckin’ place. You’ve managed to turn me around before. Perhaps you can do it again.
Here’s something I already knew but forgot. Israel has a draft and everybody has to serve. Everybody. Women too.
Maybe this is what happens to a country that’s been at war for the past five or six thousand years. But that doesn’t make it right.
So, like any country where your basic freedom to LIVE is taken away, there’s gonna be an underground organization or two that opposes the draft and circulates information on how to dodge it. Until the inevitable crackdown.
Israel is to launch a crackdown on organizations that offer advice on how to evade army service amid a wave of young Jews' disappointment.
Israeli Attorney General Menachem Mazuz ordered on Monday an investigation against the organizations which offer internet advice on evading military service, accusing them of incitement against the army.
Great. Just out of curiosity, since they're all fucked anyway, how DOES an Israeli youth dodge the draft?
"Declaring chronic back or head aches can lower your medical profile, and marking the wrong answers on the psychometric exam certainly decreases the candidate's value for security service, even leading to an automatic discharge from the IDF," one of these websites read.
Might wanna copy and paste that, just for future reference.
What do these organizations think about life in Israel?
For example, New Profile organization says Israeli society is a militaristic one and the army is in control of people's life.
The groups' members accuse the regime of desperately trying to silence them against the freedom of speech.
They say the army has difficulty in understanding society's realities.
The Israeli military’s response? Fuck you. Serve.
So, aside from the undeniable fact that Jesus is gonna be resurrected (again) in this “Holy” place, why the fook do we stick up for them? Because they’re our only foothold in a oil-rich part of the world? We already have Saudi Arabia for that.
(Aside: Weren’t 14 of the 15 hijackers on 9/11 from Saudi Arabia?)
But getting back to Israel. Fuck ‘em. Why do we care?

I dunno know why, myself. They're nuthin' but trouble lately. They're like the bitchy girlfriend that picks fights with bullies and expects their boyfriend (US) to defend their honor.
And it's clear they have spies in our gov't, the Larry Franklin case pretty much exposed that.
Sorry, you'll have to ask someone else, I'm not an Israel defender.
But Obama is. Biden is. McCain is. And when they all say they are, they get gynormous applause.
S'up with that?
Yeah, I know, all nominees have to pay homage to AIPAC, and I don't get it. I suppose there's a reason for our continued kissing up, and it prolly is to have a "friendly" in the area, but shit, the US is their whipping boy at this point. I suppose kissing up to Israel also helps candidates in FL, too, since there's a large jewish population there.
I don't know any Jewish people. Anybody here Jewish? Anybody wanna step up and say why we're appeasing you by supporting Israel?
I mean, I loved Munich as much as the next guy, but I don't get it.
The U.S. cares because of the Jewish American community and Israel's military power in that part of the world.
Way more people there, Israelis and Palestinians want to work towards peace. There's a bunch of groups there working for peace; families of soldiers lost bonding with the other side to reach peace, fighters on both sides have put down their guns for peace, American Jews and Palestinians have formed groups to work towards peace.
Believe it or not, most Israelis want formation of a Palestinian state.
Our politicians, both sides (ARE there sides anymore?), Democrat and Republican, just don't even listen, and continue to support the, as you write, militaristic Israelis. Almost automatically. Indeed. What is the fookin' deal?
Israel has militarily controlled Gaza for what? 40 years? Yeah, they closed those Israeli colonies a couple-few years ago, but hell, they control all access to Palestine. Borders, the airport, the waters. They're still blowing up public facilities and neighborhoods, in violation of international treaties (are we talkin' Geneva Conventions? Must be...), and we back 'em.
The blockade of Gaza keeps stuff like, oh, food, meds, gasoline, electricity that international relief organizations try to send in.
I call that a humanitarian crisis. What say you Congress? Silence. McCain, Hillary, Barack? Silence.
We need more posts like this but also ones who call this what it is: a humanitarian crisis. And these really brave peace organizations need to be talked up and supported.
So basically, you have a great point here, I just wanted to jump in and say what SHOULD be done.
I heard they were even blocking water for irrigation so the Palestinians couldn't even grow their own food. Yeah, I think our interest is mostly strategic, which is stupid.
Apparently in Bob Woodward's new book he uncovers BushCo's "secret information on the workings of US military in Iraq that enabled the US forces to stem the tide of violence and al-Qaeda terrorism in Iraq."
What's the secret weapon?
US military is getting training on Israeli Army tactics.
According to a badly translated website I prolly shouldn't have visited ("Information from Occupied Iraq"):
(begin quote)
It was reported in the US and British press as far back as 2003 that the US forces [are] using the Israeli Army tactics and Israeli advisers for training and consultations to counter the insurgency in Iraq. In a 2003 article titled "Israel trains US assassination squads in Iraq" the British newspaper the Guardian Reported that "The Israeli defense Force (IDF) has sent urban warfare specialists to Fort Bragg in North Carolina, the home of US special forces, and according to two sources , Israeli military "consultants" have also visited Iraq"
Israel has developed urban warfare tactics due its decades long occupation of Palestinian lands and its tight control over the population. Israel has been killing off the leadership of Palestinian resistance and organizations leaders through its "Arabaized units" known as "Dovdovan" in Hebrew who operate by infiltrating and blending in with the local population as well as dress in Arab clothes and speak fluent Arabic in order to assassinate Palestinian leaders. The Israeli tactics however are illegal under international law because the Israeli presence in the Palestinian territories is also illegal.
Moreover, Israel was successful in its assassination program in part due to its use of huge network of spies and informants to pinpoint Palestinian members of organizations Israel deems terrorist and deals them a fatal blow. Though Israel has mastered this technique but it is far from subduing the Palestinians and eradicating their resistance to its occupation.
Elaborating on the Israeli connection in Iraq, the Guardian reported "This is basically an assassination program. That is what is being conceptualized here. This is a hunter killer team," said a former senior US intelligence official.
(end quote)
Nice. These are some bad mutherfuckers. Sneaky, ruthless killers. Training our military to whack Iraqi insurgents.
We've got some fucked up friends in this world.
Fuck Israel.
Politicians support Israel because the American public supports Israel and the American public supports Israel because Israel has a great propaganda operation.
Israel currently has no strategic value to the US. On the contrary our support of it is a massive liability to us in the region.
Of course, the xtianists also need Israel to cooperate so they can have their rapture thingy. Buncha fools all around, in my book!
But Snark, Jews own this country. Remember that whole theory? Is that still out there?
Facts are facts, you guys are right.
And I'm totally watching "Munich" this weekend. Bad-ass. If I get laid this weekend, it's gonna be because of "Munich".
I thought the Jews just ran Hollywood. And controlled all the money.
And snark, you're a New Yorker! How come you're not Jewish? Aren't all New Yorkers Jewish, or has Woody Allen been lying to me all these years?
Jon Stewart's Jewish.
And isn't always about money with them. ;)
Some of my best friends are Jewish. ;)
Well if you have Jewish friends, you gotta ask them how they feel about Israel and get back to us.
It seems "Fuck Israel" is the consensus here.
Actually, I have no Jewish friends. Mostly Mexicans. I used the "snark tag". I put it up 'cause it's one of "the 5 famous lies".
I could give a shit about Israel. They use the hell out of us. AIPAC is way to involved in our politics.
And them fuckers could make better movies! ;)
However, Speilberg does a fine job.
Funny, that big jewish anti-iran rally that had invited Hillary, then Palin, and Hillary said fuck you to? They just disinvited Palin because it was getting too political. Gee - ya think?? Dumbfucks!
I wouldn't say I've got any Jewish "friends". I've got Jewish acquiantances. A med school friend of the mrs. People I work with. Parents of my daughters schoolmates. They run the gamut. Some are real gungho pro-Israel. Some are completely disinterested in anything to do with Israel. Had a guy on my floor freshman year of college, American Jew, met a chick on a kibbutz in Israel over the summer. Managed to get her a 1 year visa. She practically lived with him in his dorm room. Next year she got called back to do her military service. He was a total gungho Israel. Kid of a doctor. Total koolaid drinker. They got married senior year. I think they went back to Israel together and I think he became an Israeli citizen.
In any event, two of our best friends are Iranian expats. They are two of the most lovely, caring and giving people I have ever met. She's a nurse. He's an opera singer/stay at home dad. Snarkette went to French school with their daughter. I know they would give us their last penny if we needed it.
So the American dude who went back to Israel w/ his wife? Did he have to enter the military?
I think he actually did. Went to med school and I believe he did time in the IDF as a doctor.
Gosh, I love Iranians! I had a couple living in the apartment next to mine several years back, and they always had cool music going on. When I commented on it, the girl gave me the cd! I copied it and gave it back with much thanks, but what sweethearts, and sooo beautiful.
